Like most people I saw the ending, didn’t like it, have come to understand it.  I guess what I don’t understand is why we put so much time and effort into understanding trivial matters like this TV show.   Show of hands, how many of you voted for an American Idol or Dancing With the Stars?  No how many voted in your last municipal elections?  I know I’m not the first one to bring this subject up, but come on people.   Why do we care if some do nothing tramp goes to jail for violating her parole?  Why is that even being covered our local and national news?  Are our lives so unfulfilled that we need enjoy this person’s misery?  I blame OJ.

It all started with the OJ trial.  Before that trial all this celebrity news was for grocery store check out magazines.  Why do we care so much?  Why did we let the media think we care, we must care since someone has to watch otherwise different programs would be on.  Why did the world stop when the OJ verdict came in?  Think for a moment.  What did it really matter if in the grand scheme of things this sports figure did or did not kill these two people.  Sure it means something to his victim’s families, but what did it really matter to you and I?  It didn’t.  But we let it mean something.  We like being distracted from the real issues around us.  We don’t want to admit that we have some serious issues as a country and a planet.  How many wars/conflicts are going on now?  Why are the ice caps melting and what does that mean?  Why do we have “leaders” with criminal records?  Why do we let children go hungry in any country, especially ours?
